August 16, 2016 – The last stop on the Francis road show took us, appropriately enough, to New York City. Just as with Washington DC, our visit was an enlightening mix of aging services and enjoying the kaleidoscope of humanity called New York.
Compliments on this adventure go to Janice Dabney. She choreographed a meaningful visit to two nursing homes, Isabella and Kings Harbor, and a chance to meet one of the coolest ladies in New York, Ann Wyatt. We also met with staff from the Nursing Home and Homecare Divisions of 1199 SEIU – UHWE. Both sites were fascinating visits for Francis as well as for the staff. He has visited such a wide range of communities on this adventure but the consistent feeling he walked away with from all sites was an unlimited amount of passion from the staff to improve the lives of elders.
After the visits were over we took a midnight bus tour of the city. And while we were wandering through Times Square I wondered how do you explain all of this? A few pictures will try and convey the smiling knight from Africa!
Francis is heading back to Cameroon tomorrow. I will try to wrap up my thoughts as the remarkable journey comes to an end.
